Our First Tap-Takeover!

Collective Arts Tap takeover.jpg

You might be thinking, ‘what on earth is a tap-takeover?’ - so let’s address that first.

It’s pretty simple really, we showcase multiple beers from one particular brewery all at the same time. It’s fairly unusual to explore a large range of beer, with their individual styles in the same sitting. So a tap-takeover presents a unique opportunity!

So who’s taking over the taps?

None other than Canada’s Finest Brewery - Collective Arts.

The brewery combines a passion for Art shown in its amazing can designs with a passion for creativity reflected in the great beers which it produces.

We will be showcasing a range of different beer styles on the night and will also have some special Canadian bar snacks available.

Full beer line-up to be announced over the coming days...so stay posted!

What we can tell you is that there will be 5 Crafty Keg beers and Two Special Cans available from Collective Arts.

Are you still serving other beers?

Absolutely, our house beers (Becks, Lowenbrau, Orchard Pig etc) will still be flowing along with 4 other craft beers from different breweries.

Is it free?

It’s free entry. We just encourage you to come down earlier than later as once the beers are gone - they’re gone!

Historical Tours of PLAU

As part of Preston’s Heritage Open Days, we will be hosting historical tours of one of Preston’s oldest buildings, built 350 years ago, whose history has been revealed by our recent restoration. From the medieval well and gin distillery in the cellar to a rare reed ceiling on the top floor, the former Plough Inn has links to key events in Preston’s history. The tour is free of charge.

The Plough Inn is a long lost pub, brought back to life, reopening some 105 years after it called Last Orders in 1913. After an extensive 3 year restoration project, you have the opportunity to explore the many levels, corridors and small rooms of this building dating back to the 17th Century. This includes the recently excavated vaulted cellar rooms which contain a Dram Shop last used in the 1850s and the remains of the tiny distillery that served it. Also the Medieval stone well in the cellar that predates the building and is thought to be associated with the nearby Friary closed by Henry VIII in 1539. Other features include a rare surviving Reed and Lime ceiling on the top floor. Learn about the fascinating history of the building from the Puritan Chorley Family who built it in the 17th century, through to its ownership by one of the leading Jacobite Aristocratic families in the 18th Century, through to the role it played in the Temperance movement during the 19th Century.

Tour Dates & Times

Please note, booking is essential. You can reserve a space that corresponds to the tour time and date via our reservation system here. Due to the nature of the building, our historical tours are not recommended for those with limited mobility.

A breakfast in Preston

It’s the most important meal of the day and here at PLAU we’re offering Preston a selection of hearty hot breakfasts that could stand proud in any city. Let’s take a look at some of our favourite Breakfast & Brunch dishes…

or Vegan Vedgeree

A beautiful Indian dish, fresh Haddock flakes, buttery rice, onion Bhaji bits & topped off with a quails egg. We also have an amazing Vegan version ‘Vedgeree’ (pictured) which offers the same great taste but with sun-dried tomatoes and tantalising smoked tofu.

Turkish Eggs

Poached and delicious

Take your Brunch to the next level and try this unusual combination that works so perfectly! Garlic & Dill greek yoghurt combined with a browned chilli butter. Expect a hot & cold experience that melts in your mouth!

Traditional, Vegetarian or Vegan

What makes PLAU’s Full English Breakfast the best in Preston? - the secret is in the beans! Cumberland pork sausages, Bury black pudding, maple smoked bacon, poached or fried eggs, roasted cherry vine tomatoes and sourdough bread make for very happy tummies. However, our homemade spicy baked beans take this breakfast to the next level! Vegetarian versions are available (pictured) with delicious meat free sausages and garlic mushrooms. Perfectly seasoned scrambled tofu is there for what is quite rare in Preston, a delicious Vegan Full English.

These are just three of our favourite dishes on our Brunch menu. Why not take a look at the menu in full?

New Sunday Feasting Menu

We’ve launched an extra special menu, just for Sundays! Whilst keeping our already legendary Wild Feasting sharing platter, we now have smaller options, for the individual. Keep an eye out for the PLAU beer bread - We make this at PLAU from our house ale!

A good morning for cleaning the awning

One of the many hidden treats that 115 Friagate blessed us with was a very old shop awning. This was hidden away in it’s boxing above the front window. This awning could be nearly 100 years old and it hasn’t seen the light of day for at least 40 years! Today, we gave it a gentle scrub and took plenty of measurements to have new armature fabricated.

Valentines Taster Menu

Love is in the air and we’ve found a new love for doing set tasting menus! 7 courses of uniquely designed dishes just for that special day. It turns out that curried watermelon is a hit! Stay tuned, we might be making that a permanent addition. We also saw Rebecca from Eclectic Mix working up a beautiful floral display on the entrance of PLAU.
